Obituary: Helen Gilley Chapman, age 88, of 358 Pitts School Rd. NW died at her home Friday, May 15, 2009. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, May 18 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Crisp officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 -4:00 PM of Monday at the funeral home at other times they will be at the family residence. Helen was born April 30, 1921 in West Jefferson, one of 10 daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. James M. and Lillie Jones Gilley. She was educated in West Jefferson, but was a long time Cabarrus Co. resident. She worked for many years as a pillow case inspector for Cannon Mills Co. Plant #1 until she retired in 1983. She was a member of Kannapolis West A Church of God. In addition to her parents and 9 sisters she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Chapman, who died in 1996. She is survived by her son Gary R. Chapman and wife, Doris of Concord and 3 grandchildren; Miss Dana Chapman of Concord, Mrs. Tina Goodwin and husband, Kevin of Kannapolis and Mrs. Gina Paige and husband, Wayne of Concord. Helen is also survived by 2 Great-grandchildren; Mrs. Emily G. James and husband, Dallas of Columbia, SC and Miss Kristen Goodwin of Kannapolis.
