Obituary: Helen Cartner Helms, age 82, died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at her home after a period of declining health for 6 years. She was born September 18, 1927 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late David Baxter Cartner and Mable Lippard Cartner. She was employed with the former Fieldcrest-Cannon, Inc., Plt.#1 Main Supply Office for 38 years until her retirement in 1993. She was an active member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC having been involved with the cub scouts, choir, circle chairman, president of the Hugh Rumple Sunday School Class, and various phases of church activities throughout the years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Emma Gabrielle Peeler; two brothers, C. R. Cartner and David Baxter Cartner; and one sister, Beatrice Cartner Winecoff. She was seen by her family as a beloved wife, mother, & grandmother. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Darryl Baker. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Fred Helms, Jr.; her daughter, Linda Helms Linn & husband, Walter of Concord, NC; her son, Rick Helms of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren; & eight great-grandchildren Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
