Obituary: Helen Newton Marks, 85, of Kannapolis died Feb. 19, 2012. She was born May 1, 1926 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Dewey and Myrtle Newton. She was preceded in death by a son Derrick Wayne Marks, her former husband Cotton Marks, three sisters, Edna Arey, Vivian Young and Doris Lentz and two brothers, Buck Newton and Norman Newton and her beloved dog, Victoria. She had formerly worked at Cannon Mills, Terry Products and at the K and W Cafeteria where she retired to take care of her grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at Carolina Memorial Park. She is survived by her children, Annette Grossman (Steve) of Concord, Cyndi Marks of Kannapolis and Dennis Marks (Jenna) of Statesville, grandchildren: Nicholas Williams (Nicole), Whitney Jackson (Jason), Will Marks, Scott Marks (Angela), Tracy Wilhelm (Mark), Mandy Porter (Jason) and Rachel Grossman, great-grandchildren: Jadyn and Jesse Jackson, Nevaeh and Noah Williams, Riley Porter, Ali and Taylor Wilhelm, and Dylan Marks and two sisters, Colleen June Allen of Concord and Iris Wiley of Florida.
