Obituary: Helen Walters Randolph, 90, of Kannapolis, died on Sunday, November 20, 2011. Born July 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Seward Columbus Walters and Lola Eudy Walters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 58 years, R.B. (Tommy) Randolph, her brother Harrison Walters, her sisters Edna Liles, Lilla Lambert, Mae Clayton, and Dorothy Reister.Helen graduated from J.W. Cannon High School and was employed as a sales clerk at Efird's Department Store, credit clerk at Montgomery Wards and a sales clerk at Lewis' Drug Store of Kannapolis. She had been a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church for over fifty years.Helen is survived by her daughters Anne Randolph of Charlotte and Donna Randolph Hanson and husband Larry Hanson of Kannapolis, in addition to her brother Vernon Walters of Shallotte, NC, her sister-in-law, Lucille Walters of Kannapolis, grandchildren Mr. Chris Hanson (Brittany) and great-granddaughter Lillian Kaylyn Hanson and Mrs. April Hanson Whitener (Josh) of Monroe and great-grandson Joshua Caleb Whitener.Other surviving family members include: Mrs. Janice Higby of Lowell, N.C., Franklin and Yvonne Howard of Burlington, N.C., Murray and Lori Clayton of Greensboro, N.C., Michael and Liebe Brown of Mooresville, N.C., Teresa Liles and Rhett Smith of Pensacola, Fl., Dr. Grover Smith and wife, Cynthia, of Raleigh, N.C., Carl and June Randolph of Fort Mill, S.C., Bill Randolph of Fairfax, Virginia, Mike and Kathy Young of Burnsville, N.C., Denessa and Randy Lawson of Huntersville, N.C., Seward Vernon Walters, Jr. of Supply, N.C., Karen M. Burris of Shalotte, N.C., Wanda Biggers of Charlotte, N.C. John Burris of Harrisburg, N.C., Britt Lambert, Michael Lambert, John Lambert, Carla Lambert, Kevin Lambert, Matthew Lambert ,and John Lambert of Kannapolis. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratefulness to Mother's caretaker, Mrs. Pat Johnson, "The Boss", who was her constant companion for over four years. Pat has been so much more than a caretaker! She loved Helen as her own mother and continues to be a large part of our family! Helen's later years were greatly enhanced due to the excellent care Pat Johnson provided! Mr. Buddy Johnson is also appreciated for the assistance he provided in Helen's care. In addition, appreciation is given to Teresa Chavez and the cna's who lovingly cared for her during her declining health. Appreciation is given to Hospice of Charlotte/Lake Norman who provided excellent care, communication and concern for Helen and the family.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. Ricky Oxford officiating. Mrs. Randolph will lie in state from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to graveside service. The family will host a reception at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel following services at graveside.The family suggest memorials be made to Shadybrook Baptist Church, 1009 Oakwood Ave., Kannapolis, NC.
