Helen Smith Shannon

Obituary: Helen Smith Shannon, 84, of Charlotte, died Friday October 8, 2010. Her death was unexpected. Mrs. Shannon was born in Stewartville, Alabama, daughter of the late Cecil and Gladys Blocker Smith. She was a graduate of Weogufka High School, Weogufka, Alabama and Actual Business College in Akron, Ohio. She retired from Providence Day School after 20 years of service as secretary to the Headmaster. She was a longtime member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and an active participant of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She is survived by 2 sons; Keith Smith Shannon (Patty) of Huntersville, Kevin Allen Shannon of Charlotte, a daughter; Jill Shannon Smith (David) of Harrisburg, 3 grandchildren; Jared and Amanda Shannon and Evan Smith. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday October 16, 2010 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Jernigan and Rev. Jerry Woolery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:30 to 4:00.PM.
