Obituary: - Helen Rushing Tucker, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born December 10, 1933 in Chesterfield County, SC, the daughter of the late Lloyd Rushing and Annie Rainwater Rushing. Helen was a 1952 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, the first class at the new high school. Her father died when she was seven and she lived with her aunt & uncle and her cousin, Swansa Overcash, who was like a close sister for all of her life. In earlier years Helen was employed in electronic manufacturing in California and North Carolina for thirty years. She was an active member of Shadybrook Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, the WMU, and a choir member for many years. Helen was also a volunteer for the food pantry at the church. Having a strong love for reading, she was a dedicated member of the Book Ender Club for many years. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Rickey Oxford and Rev. Eddie Griffin. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years, Harvey D. Tucker; one daughter, Diane Tucker McEwen & husband, Jim of Hamlet, NC; two sons, Mike Tucker & wife, Pam of Rockwell, NC and Greg Tucker of Kannapolis, NC; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
