Obituary: Mr. Henry Robert Gettys, 86, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2010, at his home in Kannapolis. He was born on November 25, 1923, in Shelby, N.C. to Anna McFarland and Smith Jefferson Gettys. Henry served in World War II with Patton's Third Army, and 26 years later retired from the U.S. Air Force. He served in many worldwide locations, including the Presidential Wing (Air Force One) at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. Henry is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Becky Hill and husband Wayne, daughter Margaret Gettys, son Steve and wife Serafima; sisters Cora Lookadoo and Blanch Scoggins, grandchildren Jason and Brad Hill, and nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by siblings Ethel Green Wright, Paul Gettys and Wilbur Gold Gettys. A Committal Service for Mr. Gettys will take place at 10 A.M. Tuesday, September 14th to be held at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC with a Memorial Service following at 12 noon at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gene Frady.
