Henry Clay Power

September 23, 1942 — October 10, 2013

Obituary: Henry Clay Power, age 71 went to be with his Lord, on Monday, October 7, 2013 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Rowan County, September 23, 1942, he was the son of the late Edna Mae Power and Henry Grady Power. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Lynn Livengood. A member of Bethel Wesleyan Church, Mr. Power attended Kannapolis City Schools and completed his education during his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. He retired, due to declining health from Fieldcrest Cannon in 1988, where he worked for many years in the #1 Weave Room as a loom fixer. Henry never met a stranger and was a friend to all. Before his illness, he enjoyed woodworking and restoring his 1969 Mustang. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kay Smith Power, three step-children, Darrell (Nina) Kiser of Salisbury, Pamela (Matt) McMullen of Canton, GA., and Tina (Chris) Barringer of China Grove; grandchildren, DJ (Tara) Kiser, Taylor, Katie, and Jacob Barringer, Zachary Livengood, and Jesse Case; great grandchildren, Riley and Peyton Kiser; sister, Alma (Terry) McNeely, and brothers, Tony (Linda) Power, and Randy (Dee) Atwell and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2013 with Rev. Joseph B. Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the services at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Al, Vickie and Lundy Wriston, Gene Rigdon, Terry and Matthew Parham, Larry and Libby Sides, and all the many friends at Libby's Pit Stop, and our church family for their love, support, and prayers during Henry's extended illness. We would also like to thank Nurse Sheri, Jimmie, and everyone at Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care and genuine concern for our entire family and friends while they cared for our loved one.
