Henry Clay Roten

Henry Clay Roten, 87, of Kannapolis, passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2023, at Northeast Medical Center.

Henry was born on January 31, 1936, in Wilkes County, NC, one of thirteen children born to Joel and Bessie Eller Roten.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 grandchildren Kristin Honeycutt and Karen Roten.

Henry served his country in the 82nd Airborne, he grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains on a large farm and was of Baptist faith.  Henry worked as a Fixer in #3 weave room at Canon Mill. He also worked at Wayne Brothers Construction where he retired and then owned and operated Henry’s Backhoe Service. He enjoyed wood working and tinkering on cars.  He was a Master Mason. He loved his family and was a good provider.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years Delores Childress Roten, daughters; Tamara R. Beaver (William) of Concord, Donna L. Roten of China Grove, sons; Tyron C. Roten (Elaine) of China Grove and H. Wayne Roten (Barbara) of Kannapolis, sister; Alice Whitley, of Wilkesboro. He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00 PM on Monday April 17, 2023, at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis, with the funeral service at 2:00 PM followed by a graveside service at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, with the Rev. Alan Thompson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and Patriot Honor Guard.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
