Henry Grady Smith

Obituary: Mr. Henry Grady Smith, 89, of Kannapolis died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Big Elm Retirement Center following a period of declining health. He was born September 26, 1922 in Madison County, Ga. a son of the late Sidney DeWitt Smith and Vedie Ethel Page Smith.Mr. Smith retired in 1988 from Kannapolis Landfill where he was a bulldozer operator. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Whitley's FuneralHome Chapel conducted by Rev. Jimmy Barnhill. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. At other times they will be at the residence.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Rosie Lee Collins Smith who died April 11, 2011. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sidney Matthews and Betty Byrd and two brothers, Hugh and Bill Smith.Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Pat) Smith Christy and husband Richard E. Christy of Kannapolis, three grandchildren, Kim Morris of China Grove, David Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Connie Power of Kannapolis.
