Obituary: Herbert Hines, 74, of Kannapolis died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his brother's residence following a short illness. He was born July 5, 1937 in Alamance County, NC a son of the late Paul Washington and Pearl Sylena Chapman Hines. Herbert was a member of Crown Pointe Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a technician with Colonial Trucking Company for 30 years. He was a member of Good Guys Rod and Custom Car Association. He had shown cars at the Food Lion Auto Fair and at many cruise ins. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Crown Pointe Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Gene Beaver. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to final rites. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum in China Grove. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday 7:00-9:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence of a brother, James Hines, 4325 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Carol Sloop. He is survived by three brothers, James (Pamela) Hines of China Grove, Buddy Hines, and his late wife Barbara of Mooresville, and Harold (Shirley) Hines of Phoenix City, Alabama., two sisters, Betty (Royce) Scarborough of Kannapolis and Doris (Ray) DeBoe of Concord and brother in law, Bruce Sloop of Concord.
