Herman Mancel Barnette

Obituary: Herman Mancel Barnette, 86 of Kannapolis passed away on Friday, May 2nd, 2014 at his residence. His death follows a period of declining health. Mr. Barnette was born in Wilkes County, NC on July 9, 1927 a son of the late Virgil and Alma Nance Barnette. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Mr. Barnette was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon where he had been employed for 45 years. For most of his career he was in the weave room and was later in the bleachery. He was well known local bee keeper. He was a member of Genesis Baptist Church. Services celebrating Mr. Barnette's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Genesis Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church. Mr. Barnette is survived by his wife of 68 yrs., Dorothy Lowe Barnette of the home, 2 sons; Ronald E. Barnette and wife Diane of Kannapolis, and Jimmy M. Barnette of China Grove, brothers; Sanford Barnette of Winston-Salem, Ted Barnette, Elvert Barnette, and Howard Barnette all of N. Wilkesboro, a sister Bonnie Shoemake of N. Wilkesboro, 3 grandchildren; Jennifer Overcash and husband Darrin of Salisbury, Brent Barnette and wife Lisa, and Leah Barnette both of Kannapolis and 2 great grandchildren; Logan Overcash of Salisbury, and Josh Barnette of Kannapolis.
