Obituary: Herman Caudill, 94. of Liberty Lane Hospice, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Liberty Lane Hospice House, Salisbury. Herman was born December 13, 1921 in Ashe County, NC a son of the late DC and Ozie Bell Bare Caudill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Herman Jerry Caudill, seven sisters, and one brother. He leaves behind to cherish his memories a loving wife of 70 years, Jessie Faw Riffle Caudill. Five daughters, Jean (Jim) Caldwell, Amy Osborne, Debbie Laws, Justine Fiore, Gill (Mike) Walden, seventeen grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by three brothers, Bobby Caudill, Vernon Caudill, and Howard Caudill and three sisters, Tommie Allmon, Bonnie Almond, and Edybelle Reagan. Numerous nieces and nephews and survive. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Roger Bostic. Interment will follow in West Concord Cemetery, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Herman attended New Hope Independent Baptist Church. Herman and his family resided in New York for about 20 years where he operated heavy equipment. He then retired to Mt. Pleasant where he loved to fish and garden. Gardening was one of Herman's joys. He had a strong love for the mountains of Ash County, NC and the flowers. His beautiful smile and sense of humor will be deeply missed. He proudly served his county during WW2 from 1942-1945 in the US Army serving with the 357 Regiment.
