Herman Clayton Middleton

Obituary: Herman Clayton Middleton, 76, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015. He was born January 15, 1939 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Willie Dean Middleton, Sr. and Wilhelimenia Jones Middleton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Dean Middleton, Jr. Clayton was a graduate of A. L. Brown High School and Appalachian State University where he received a B.S. degree in Education. He retired from Lexington Senior High School after teaching there for 30 years. He also owned Middleton's Trophy, Framing and Art in Lexington for 33 years, as well as Carolina Gallery in Graham. After retiring from teaching, Clayton returned to his hometown of Kannapolis where for a decade he was a salesman for Beasley-Cross Chevrolet. Clayton was a veteran of the US Army from 1957-61. He was a member of the BPOE Elks where he helped organize the Lexington Lodge #2527 in 1975 and was the Exalted Ruler in 1977. He served as the State Elks Chairman in 1978-79. He was a member of West Point Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Chris Shelton. Private family burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Becky Hodgens Middleton, daughter, Danielle Middleton Cook (Kristofer) of Charlotte, granddaughter, Alexandra Grace Cook, son, Brandon Walker of Kannapolis, daughter, Suzanne Walker Hilton (Tim) of Kannapolis, grandson, Walker Vance Hilton, granddaughter, Anna-Claire Hilton, brother, Lance Middleton of Kannapolis, and sister, Frances Middleton of Kannapolis. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 and/or West Point Baptist Church, 1100 Pine Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
