Homer Crowe

Obituary: Dock Homer Crowe, age 96, of Rockwell, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury after a period of declining health. A funeral will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 29, with Rev. John Houghton officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. His family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the funeral. Homer was born July 21, 1920 in Franklin Co. GA, one of 13 Children of the late Jessie Pearl Crowe and Bertie Fowler Crowe. He was a longtime area resident and a veteran of WWII. Homer served in the US Navy, fighting in the Battle of Guam. As a Navy Seabee, he helped rebuild the Airfields, on Guam, after the battle. Homer was employed for many years with Cannon Mills as an electrician overhauling the big machines. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell. Homer enjoyed hunting rabbits with his dogs. He was a "Handyman", who could do everything. He built and wired homes and buildings and was the neighborhood lawn mower repair man for many years after retiring. Homer was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Burke and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice Scarborough Crowe of Rockwell; his 2 daughters, Betty Ann Burke Harris (Bill) of Atlanta and Paulette Burke Russell (Terry) of Salisbury; his 2 sons, Barry Lynn Crowe (Heather) of Christiansburg, VA and Timothy Lee Crowe of Rockwell. Homer is also survived by his sister, Collen Crowe Morgan of Mocksville, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
