Howard Absher

Obituary: Howard B. Absher, 95, of Salisbury, passed away Monday afternoon, June 13, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House following a brief illness. Born December 19, 1920 in Wilkes County, Howard was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Jane Miller Absher. He had honorably served his country as a US Marine during WWII. Mr. Absher retired, as an overhauler, after more than 45 years of loyal service from Cannon Mills and was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church in Kannapolis. A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Absher will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Flossie G. Absher; 5 brothers Alfred, Troy, Ervin, Grant and Muncie Absher; 6 sisters, Becky Thompson, Effie Absher, Emma Marshall, Leanner Foster, Margie Watkins and Reba Elledge. Loving family members include his daughter Marlene Harrington (Eddie); granddaughter Deana Gatton (Michael); his grandson Todd Harrington (Amy); great-grandchildren Allie and Gracie Gatton, Alexis and Charlee Harrington; his brother Junior Absher (Bessie) and his brother-in-law Jimmy Elledge. The family will receive friends Friday, June 17th from 12:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Absher's life will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Revs. Herman Absher and Bobby Sutherland. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Absher's name to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. On-line condolences may be made to www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
