Obituary: Howard B. Absher, 95, of Salisbury, passed away Monday afternoon, June 13, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House following a brief illness. Born December 19, 1920 in Wilkes County, Howard was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Jane Miller Absher. He had honorably served his country as a US Marine during WWII. Mr. Absher retired, as an overhauler, after more than 45 years of loyal service from Cannon Mills and was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church in Kannapolis. A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Absher will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Flossie G. Absher; 5 brothers Alfred, Troy, Ervin, Grant and Muncie Absher; 6 sisters, Becky Thompson, Effie Absher, Emma Marshall, Leanner Foster, Margie Watkins and Reba Elledge. Loving family members include his daughter Marlene Harrington (Eddie); granddaughter Deana Gatton (Michael); his grandson Todd Harrington (Amy); great-grandchildren Allie and Gracie Gatton, Alexis and Charlee Harrington; his brother Junior Absher (Bessie) and his brother-in-law Jimmy Elledge. The family will receive friends Friday, June 17th from 12:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Absher's life will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Revs. Herman Absher and Bobby Sutherland. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military honors.
