Howard Ray " Chubby" Atwell

Obituary: Howard Ray "Chubby" Atwell, 76, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis following several years of declining health. Howard was born September 12, 1935 in Cabarrus County to the late Howard and Lillian Miller Atwell. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Howard Reece Atwell who died in 2001. Memorial services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Harvest Community Church, 4284 Orphanage Road, Concord, 28027, conducted by Pastor Jeff Burris. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:30-4:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Howard was educated at Winecoff High School and retired from Concord Telephone Company after 44 years of service. He was a charter member of Sharon Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Private burial will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jo Ellen Pressley Atwell of the home, daughter, Sherry Turner and husband Scott of Concord, son, Kenneth Atwell and wife Christine of Kannapolis, six grandchildren, Brandon Turner, Bethany Bostic and husband Dave, Nicole Atwell, Robert Atwell, Chase Atwell and Michelle Atwell, three great grandchildren, Brantley Turner, Shayleigh Turner and David C. Bostic, III. His special canine companion, PeeWee, will also miss him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
