Obituary: Salisbury, NC- Howard Samuel Dowell, age 83, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born April 15, 1930 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Dock Samuel Dowell and Dollie Dyson Dowell. Howard worked for the former Cannon Mills Company in Kannapolis; Draymore Manufacturing in Mooresville, NC; and later with Superba Print Works also in Mooresville. He was also a well-known taxidermist in the Kannapolis area and a well-known locksmith in the Mooresville area. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, and oil paint. Howard was a member of the China Grove Church of God. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Dowell; and a sister, Billie Jean Dowell. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Revs. Steve Sprinkle and Eugene Sprinkle. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Kathy Goodwin, the remainder of the time. Heaven rejoices, another one has come home. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Dowell Smith; his children, Roger Dowell, Kathy Dowell Goodwin (Paul), and Amy Dowell McGuire (Danny); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
