Obituary: Howard F Mergen 6/17/1940 - 11/21/2017 Howard unexpectedly passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife of 49 years Patricia and wonderful son and best friend H.A. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lydia F Mergen and Fred E Mergen, and his sister Linda Lee Mergen. Howard was devoted to God, family and country and proudly served in the United States Army. He graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and proudly retired from Oldsmobile Division of General Motors after 29 years of service. He was a friend to all he met and spent his life making people happy. He loved cars, racing, winning, taking pictures and making DVD memories. Exemplifying Howard's Christian faith, he was always positive and uplifting. No words were left unsaid. Howard accomplished everything he set out to do and fulfilled all of his dreams. Visitation will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2017. A graveside service will follow at Center Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, corner of Little Texas Rd. and Dale Earnhardt Blvd. at 3:00 PM officiated by Chaplain Donnie Floyd. Military rites will be by the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard and the Army National Guard.
