Obituary: Howard Alvis Smith, Jr., 81, of Kannapolis passed away Sept 12, 2018. He was born January 17, 1937 in Madison County, GA., a son of the late Howard Alvis Smith Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fortson Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Dowell Smith in 2016. Howard was an electronics repairman for many years working for several businesses. He was an avid guitar player. He enjoyed gardening, going to the mountains and studying his Bible. A service will be held at 1:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Tim Barnette. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior from 12:30 to 1:00 PM. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa S. Freeman (Todd) of Concord, 4 sons, Howard A. Smith III of Kannapolis, Samuel Dion Smith of China Grove, Paul Tyrone Smith (Denise) of Rockwell, Timothy Wade Smith of Honolulu, HI., brother, Flavel David Smith, two sisters, Zadie Pettigrew and Dee Vernon, 11 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and several great- great grandchildren.
