Howard (Junior) Durham

Howard Chester Durham, Jr., age 81, of Kannapolis passed away on January 13, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born May 16, 1940 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Howard Durham, Sr. and Della Storie Durham. In addition to his parents, Jr. was preceded in death by his brothers Bill, Tom and Guy Durham and his sister Nancy Reynolds.

Jr. is survived by his sons, Michael Durham and Caleb Durham and his wife Linda and his daughter, Crystal Durham Ross and his sister Joyce Larrimore and Larisa Eagle, whom he loved as a daughter, all of Kannapolis. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brooke Mann, Whitney Linker, Bryant Durham, Kandis Moore, Stephanie Ross, Kali Thompson and Reagan Eagle and his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Mabe, Brilee Skinner, Breighlee Durham, London Linker, Slade Linker and Amelia Watson.

Jr. received a degree in heating and refrigeration and opened his own business (Enochville Heating and Air) which he operated with his son, Caleb, for the past 42 years. He also opened JR’s reality and rentals that he operated for 57 years. He was an understanding landlord that would work with renters if they fell on hard times and needed an extra month to pay rent. He took great pride in his businesses and was well known in the Enochville Community.

One of his favorite things to do was to go to the Outer Banks of NC on Drum Island and fish. Jr. enjoyed, in early years, going with his brothers and later years with his children. Some of their best memories were made on the island with him. He also has a passion for restoring classic and vintage cars. Jr. had a kind heart and “Lending” hand to all who knew him.

Due to Covid concerns, Howard will lie in state from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday, January 31 at Whitley’s Funeral Home for friends to pay their respects. The family will follow him from Whitley’s Funeral Home to West Lawn Memorial Park where a graveside service will take place at 3pm.
