Hoyle Wesley (Bob) Dwiggins, 97, of Kannapolis died at his home, early Friday, February 17, 2023, after a period of declining health. Bob was born April 5, 1925, in Kannapolis NC, a son of the late Joe and Esther (Sides) Dwiggins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers, Leroy and Jerry Dwiggins, his daughter-in-law, Linda Dwiggins, his sister-in-law, Anna Dwiggins and his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary (Christy) Dwiggins.
Bob was a lifelong area resident and the oldest member of North Kannapolis UMC where he sang in the choir for over 60 years, sang in the church quartet, and served in the men’s club. He graduated from Cannon High School in 1942 and enlisted shortly after graduation. Bob was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. He loved talking about his time in the Navy as a torpedoman 1st Class, on the ship USS Bernadou and proudly wore his numerous Navy hats wherever he went. After his discharge from the Navy, Bob graduated from Bowman Tech where he learned watch/clock repair and jewelry making. Bob owned HW Dwiggins Jewelers for many years and worked for Fiber Industries in Salisbury until his retirement.
Up until his decline, Bob could be found most days doing his favorite thing, organizing watch parts and tinkering with old watches. It brought him great pride and joy, sitting for hours with his favorite hobby. Bob was a beloved husband and father and always made himself available to help his friends, family and church.
Those who are left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Sheila (Mark) Ahearn of Myrtle Beach, SC, son, Timothy Wesley Dwiggins, of Kannapolis, grandchildren, Jeremy Dwiggins (Grace Perkins), Patrick Ahearn and Kevin Ahearn, sisters-in-law, Rebekah Dwiggins and Joanne Christy, and many loving nieces and nephews.
