Hoyle Jay Whitley

Obituary: Hoyle Jay Whitley, 87, of Kannapolis died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born May 12, 1925 in Rowan County, NC son of the late John Leroy and Lottie Mae McDaniel Whitley. He was an active member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He had served in various church positions and was a member of the MYF and the Autumn Friends Senior Citizen's Group. Hoyle had been employed with Jewel Tea Company for 22 years and later was employed with W.A. Brown for seven years until his retirement. He and his wife enjoyed both salt water and fresh water fishing and he also enjoyed woodworking. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladie M. Whitley Roseman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Goodman Whitley of the Home, one son John Eric Whitley and wife Kim of Kannapolis, grandson, John Matthew Whitley and wife Kristina of Concord and two great granddaughters, Ava and Emarie. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Kristy Burnette. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00-5:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. At other times they will be at the residence.
