Obituary: Mr. Hoyt Hilburn, 93, of Sunrise, Fl., formerly of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2017 following a period of declining health. He was born July 31, 1923 in Walker County, GA. a son of the late Daniel Webster Hilburn and the late Arie Cohran Hilburn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Mace) Hilburn who died September 12, 2001, and a sisters, Maxine Herrington, Pauline Reynolds, Ailene Caster Leanese Jenkins and a brother, Walter Hilburn. Hoyt was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Golden Years Club, served as chairperson of Bethpage and was a member of most of the committees at the church. He was a veteran of WW2 serving in the US Army. He had served as a deputy sheriff for twenty-five years with the Broward County Sheriff's department. Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, May 6th , 2017 at Bethpage United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Portis and Duane Melton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Bethpage United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veteran's Honor Guard. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Douglas (Dawn ) Hilburn of Sunrise, Fl. a sister, Derelle Kiser of Concord, two grandsons, Kris and Brice Hilburn and two great grandchildren.
