Obituary: Hubert "Rabbit" Watson Carter, 82 of Kannapolis died Friday, September 30, 2011 at his residence following a period of declining health.Rabbit was born June 2, 1929 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Daniel Watson Carter and Lucy Carter. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Cartex, Rowan and Cannon Mills. He was known for his doffing skills. Rabbit enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, playing pool and dancing. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. He considered the patrons of the West A Lounge his second family.Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 3, 2011 at Kannapolis Cemetery conducted by Rev. Mike Hubbard. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 prior to the graveside service. At other times they will be a their respective residences.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol James Carter and his second wife Sarah H. Carter who died in 2004. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Adam "Buster" Carter and three sisters, Eva "Evie" Mae, Lula "Lullie" and Margaret. Two grandchildren, Charity Jo Yarborough and Dillon Barringer also preceded him in death.He is survived by four daughters, Debra (David) Hamrick, Cathy (Willie) Yarborough, and Sherry (Curtis) Fisher all of Salisbury, Darla (Tim) Boardman of Cleveland, NC, one brother, William "Bill" Boyden Carter of Kannapolis and a step daughter, Linda (David) Lackey of Kannapolis.
