Ira "Eugene" Eugene Long

Ira Eugene Long, 86, of Kannapolis, passed away on December 9, 2023. Eugene was born August 6, 1937, in Cabarrus County, to the late Charlie Brantley Long and Flora Yost Pruiett.

Eugene worked at Fieldcrest Cannon for many years until he retired. He was a sweet and kind old man who loved walking the streets pulling a wagon and picking up cans. He loved spending time with his dog and cats and enjoyed helping people if he could help.

Eugene was preceded by his parents, Charlie and Flora and his sister Mary Lou Long.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Laurie Long; his daughter, Leslie Long; his son, Andy Long and his grandchildren, David Wishon, Alexandra Wishon and Lincoln Wishon. He is also cherished by his sister-in-law, Mattie Jean Moore and her husband Darren Moore; his nieces, Kandace Lee, Elizabeth Freeman, Sabrina Freeman and Jenifer Ross; his nephews, Marcus Freeman, Jonathan Crouse and Joey Ross; his great nieces and nephews, Makayla Freeman, Bentley, Brayden, Brantley, Makenna, Makenzie, Micheal Jr., Chloe, Malli-Jo and many other family members and friends.

Eugene’s family will receive friends and family on Sunday, December 17, 2023, for time of visitation at 2:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM following the visitation in the funeral home chapel.
