Irene Newsome Edgison

Obituary: Irene Newsome Edgison,87, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Big Elm Retirement Center following a period of declining health. She was born October 29, 1925 in Union County, NC a daughter of the late Albert Newsome and Dezzie Godwin Newsome. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband, Jacob Berlin Edgison and a son Jacob Steven Edgison. Irene was employed at the former Cannon Mills, Plt. #4 as a weaver, retiring with 49 years of service. She was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and working in her flower garden. Survivors include a son; James Albert (Joanne) Edgison of China Grove, and a daughter, Janice Turner of Kannapolis. Three grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will 12:00 Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jimmy Barrett. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence of the son, James Albert Edgison.
