Irma Lunsford Whitt

Obituary: Lenoir, NC Irma Jean Lunsford Haley Whitt, 80, of Lenoir, formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Shaire Center assisted living facility in Lenoir after a period of declining health. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 25 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with a graveside service following at Carolina Memorial Park at 2:00 PM. Irma was born March 30, 1938 in Rowan Co., a daughter of the late John and Edna Scercy Lunsford. In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her brother, John Lunsford, her first husband, Charles W. Haley, Jr., her second husband, Robert Whitt and her son, Bobby Charles Haley. In her early years, Irma worked for Cannon Mills. In 1986 she moved to Carolina Beach with her husband, Charlie. She owned and operated a little gift shop in Carolina Beach and later went to work for the New Hanover Public Schools as a teacher's assistant in the special education classrooms until she retired. After the death of her second husband, Irma moved to Lenoir to be near her son. Irma was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed. Those left to cherish her memory include her grandson, Wesley V. Haley of Asheville, her step-grandson, David Bassinger, her great-grandson Payton Charles Haley, "daughter of her heart" Gwen J. Howard of Concord, her sisters, Patricia L. Price of Kannapolis and Debbie L. Gray of Mooresville.
