Iva Brown Smith

Obituary: Iva Nora Brown Smith, 84, of 200 S. East Ave., Kannapolis, NC died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord, NC. Iva was born on October 23, 1925 in Wilkes Co., NC, the daughter of the late Ambrose Floyd Brown and the late Ollie Laura Watson Brown. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Smith who died in 1989; a son, John L. Miller and a sister, Cletus Faulkenbury. Mrs. Smith retired in 1989 from the former Cannon Mills Co. where she worked in the Spinning Room in Plant #1. She was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church where for many years she kept the Nursery. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Kirby and husband, Buddy of Terrell, NC; a son, Mark Smith of Kannapolis. 6 grandchildren; Bradley Miller, Darren Miller & wife, Katherine, Brian Kirby & wife, Cyndee, Melissa Price & husband, Wayne, Nathan Smith and Tiffany Smith; 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers; Ransom Brown of Davidson, NC and Junior Brown & wife, Daphne of China Grove, NC and 3 sisters; Ruth Holbrook of Charlotte, Imogene Collins & husband, Aubrey of Clemmons, NC and Irene Moose & husband, Gene of China Grove, NC. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Smith will take place at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 7th at Shadybrook Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rickey Oxford and Rev. Don Davis. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 10:30-12:00 at the church before the service.
