Jack Alexander Brawley, 93, formerly of 6815 Plyer Road, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born December 5, 1927, in Iredell County, he was the ninth child of John Henry and Mamie Caroline Caudill Brawley.
On June 12, 1943, Jack married the love of his life, Juanita Harrington. During most of Jack’s adult life, he worked as a fixer in Cannon Mills, Plant One Weave Room, retiring after forty years of loyal service. Along with his wife, he spent his early retirement traveling throughout the United States, enjoying his grandchildren, and mowing anything that needed it. The two of them celebrated their seventy-seventh anniversary this past June with cake at Best of Care, where they made their home.
Jack’s survivors, in addition to his wife, include his two daughters, Carol Shuping, of Rockwell, and Jackie Cross and husband Reid, of China Grove; his son, Dennis Brawley and wife Pam, of Kannapolis; 8 grandchildren and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and extended family members.
Those preceding Jack in death, in addition to his parents, include his sisters, Pearl Cline, Thelma Dancy, Annie Sue Cook, and Myrtle Troutman; his brothers, Frank, Demps, Richard and Harold Brawley.
Mr. Brawley will lie in state at the funeral home from 10:00-12:00 noon Thursday, January 21st. Due to the pandemic, a private service will be held and interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Jack’s memory to the church where he was a lifelong member: New Hope Lutheran Church, 1615 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
