Obituary: Jack Wesley Irvin, 93, of Concord passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Transitional Health Services. He was born October 14, 1917 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Royd Wesley Irvin and Effie Irene Thornburg Irvin. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Jennifer Thigpen Deal, two brothers, Charlie Irvin and Donald Irvin and a sister Ruth Hager. Jack retired from Cannon Mills Co. after 48 years where he was a supervisor in the Machine Overhauling Dept. He also owned and operated Jack Irvin's Garage serving his friends and neighbors in the Odell Community. He was a former president of the Odell Fire dept. for 12 years. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army in the European Theater where he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned the Eamet Campaign medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal GO# 25 HQ 18th Inf. and a Bronze Star GO #51 1st Division.He was a lifetime member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church where he had been very active in various church activities including serving as Elder, Church Treasurer, Sunday school teacher, Clerk of Session and Director of the Building Committee.Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Gilwood Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Alan Buckner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM prior at the church. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Frances Hucks Irvin, his son, Mike Irvin (Kathy) of Concord, his two daughters Carol Irvin Thigpen (Emory) of Beulaville and Pamela Irvin Turpin (Tom) of Mooresville, his sister Peggy I. Overcash of Kannapolis, two grandchildren Jeffrey Lane Turpin and Philip Wesley Irvin and two step-grandchildren Kabin and Ryan Brown.Memorials may be made to Gilwood Presbyterian Church % Building Improvement Fund, 2993 Odell School Rd., Concord, NC 28027.
