Jack Wilburn Sells

Obituary: Jack Wilburn Sells, age 82, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born May 15, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, NC, the son of the late Marshall Stanback Sells and Lela Kearns Sells. Jack was employed with the Town of Landis as an electrical lineman and also with Rozelle Lighting Company, Kannapolis, NC for a total of 30 years until his retirement.He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict.He is fondly thought of by his family as being a dedicated husband, father, brother, and friend.Jack was well known to residents of Landis when the power went out.He was loyal to citizens of Landis often working in storms and through the night to get power back on.Jack was also known as a constant joker who never lost his sense of humor even through tough times and bad health.He was always willing to help anyone who asked. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. James Rollings, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Landis, NC.Burial will be private at a later date.The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gloria Reynolds Sells; two daughters, Grechen Guill & husband, Ronnie of Troutman, NC and Selina Hamrick & husband, Bill of Salisbury, NC; two sons, David Sells & wife, Katie and Keith Sells, both of Landis, NC; one sister, Sarah Sells Dennis of China Grove, NC; seven grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 500 E. Ryder Street, Landis, NC 28088.
Visitation: 2-3:00 P.M., Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 3 P.M. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: West lawn Mem. Park in China Grove, NC.
