Jackie Medlin Stevens, 92, of Concord, went to be with Jesus away Saturday evening, June 29, 2024, from Tucker Hospice House.
Born January 1, 1932, in Johnston County, NC, Jackie was a son of the late Talbot and Nellie Mae Medlin Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary “Wezzie” Pickler Stevens; brothers, Thurston, Talbert, Maxton and Rupert Stevens; and sisters, Janice Roby, Fula Cobb and Rita Higgins.
Mr. Stevens had honorably and proudly served his country as a sergeant with the US Marines, serving from 1951-1954. He operated Jacks Service on Centergrove Rd. for 41 years, always being there to help customers get back on the road. He enjoyed his many customers, working on their automobiles, inspecting cars, changing oil and tires, and just talking and passing the day with them. He had bowled for years and had been in the Hoinke Classic Bowling League in Cincinnati. Jackie also enjoyed fishing at Kure Beach and Hatteras and going to Harrods in Cherokee with Wezzie. He had been a faithful member of 2nd Presbyterian Church, serving as treasurer for 41 years. Jackie and his dear friends Charles Fink and Howard Casper, worked together doing repairs at the church.
Family members left with cherished memories include his sister, Shirley Grass; his sisters-in-law, Patty White and Joan Brines; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family members; and lots of friends, all who will miss Mr. Stevens dearly.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Sue Black. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors.
