Celebrating the Life of

Jacqueline “Jackie” Troutman Spry

Jacqueline “Jackie” Troutman Spry, 94, passed peacefully from this world into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 7, 2024.

Born January 20, 1930, in Kannapolis, Jackie was the daughter of the late George William Troutman and Mary Bostian Troutman. She grew up on their family farm, graduated from Odell and went to business school. Her first job was with Cannon Mills. While there she met the love of her life, Charles “Charlie” Spry. They were joyously married for 69 years and had one daughter, Jane.

Jackie loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and lived her life to honor and glorify him. She devoted time to Bible Studies and throughout the years taught Children’s Sunday School and Children’s Choir. She and Charlie were active members of Hickory Grove Baptist Church – Mallard Creek Campus. She loved telling people about her Jesus.

Jackie and her family loved vacationing, especially at the beach and in Florida. Shelling was a favorite activity, and she made a special couch table that sits on her back porch to display her many “seashell treasures.” The family always had dogs and she especially loved being “Grammy” to her grand dogs.

Jackie lived a full and fulfilling life. She enjoyed multiple careers – including working at Concord-Kannapolis Savings and Loan, and owning her own dress shop, Isabel’s, in Kannapolis. In her forties, she went back to school and received her nursing degree. She graduated top in her Class and went to work for Cabarrus Hospital in the cardiac intensive care unit for several years. Later, she became a Caterer and Wedding Cake designer/baker, and then a Real Estate Agent with Allen Tate Realty in her sixties. She closed out her careers as the Executive Secretary to Michael Marsicano at the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte and at Foundation for the Carolinas – finally retiring at 72 years of age.

Jackie had many hobbies and talents. Music was a big part of her life including playing piano and singing in Church, the Charlotte Choral Society, and a Charlotte Big Band. She was a self-taught artist, painting both oils and watercolors. She loved playing card games, especially Bridge with friends. She was a gourmet cook (Carrot Cake was a specialty!). She enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers – especially roses and peonies. She said she felt close to the Lord in her garden. She also enjoyed floral design, bowling, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, sewing and much more.

Jackie dearly loved her family and friends.  With the gift of hospitality, she opened her home frequently as the gathering place for all. Her home was filled with love and laughter. She was always the first to volunteer to help those in need with meals, flowers, cards, prayer, and love.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved Charlie, and her three brothers Raymond, G.W. and Foy Troutman. She is survived by her daughter Jane Spry Cecil, son-in-law Allan Cecil, who Jackie and Charlie considered a son, her sister Della Sperlbaum (Ron), and her brothers-in-law Jerry Spry (Judy), and Wayne Spry.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Friday June 14 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 13200 Mallard Creek Dr. Charlotte, NC 28262. There will be a memorial service celebrating Jackie’s life and legacy immediately following the visitation at 2:00. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum at Carolina Memorial Park, 601 Mt Olivet Rd Concord, NC 28025.

The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside of Concord and Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their compassionate care and support over the last few months. They were a blessing to the family.
