Obituary: James "Jim" Cardell Ballard, 84, of Kannapolis passed away, July, 14, 2018 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born May 3, 1934 in Mecklenburg Co. to the late James Henry Ballard and Della McClain Ballard. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 19th at Resurrection Baptist Church (5615 Old Salisbury Concord Rd) with Pastor Tim B. Jones and Curtis Ballard officiating, Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 18 at Whitley's Funeral Home, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Jim was the owner and operator of Jim's Auto Service from 1967 to 2004. He enjoyed watching his grandson Brad race, and Bluegrass Music, he loved his church and his Lord, and he will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by, his parents, and two brothers, Coley and Norman Ballard. Those left to cherish his memory, his wife Mabel Ballard whom he married in 1958, sons, Curtis James Ballard (Teresa) of Kannapolis, James Nunn (Susan) of Kannapolis, step daughter, Judy Jones (Larry), step son, Larry Arnold Hooker of Taylorsville, NC, grandchildren, Bradley Ballard of Kannapolis, Brandon Ballard (Amy) of Concord, four step grandchildren; Adam, Jonathon, Amanda, and Tyler Hooker, 2 step great grandchildren, Jordan and McKenzie, two brothers, Curley and Toy Ballard, and one sister Dessie Allman. The family would like to thank Judy Jones and Hospice for their loving care of Jim during his illness.
