Obituary: James Franklin Barber, 71 of Kannapolis, died Friday February 18, 2011 at Five Oaks Manor. His death follows an extended illness. Mr. Barber was born in Catawba County, NC., on January 29, 1940, a son of the late James Haskell and Wilma Gilliland Barber. He is also preceded in death by a son Jeffery Michael Barber. Mr. Barber was retired from Cannon Mills and Fieldcrest Cannon after more than 35 years employment. He loved blue grass music and was a member of the former Masters Quartet. He was a member of Solid Rock Worship Center. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. (Perry) Barber, sons; David and Tim Barber (Lynn) both of Kannapolis, grandson; John Barber of Harrisburg, step-granddaughter, Melissa Maynard of Clayton, three step-great grandchildren; Logan, Emma, and Kayla Maynard, brothers; William Buddy Barber (Brenda), and Richard Barber (Linda) both of Kannapolis, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday February 21, at Solid Rock Worship Center, Kannapolis, with Rev. Richard E. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Family suggest memorials be made to Solid Rock Worship Center, 3000 Centergrove Rd., Kannapolis, NC., 28083.
