James “Hobart” Benson, Jr., 94, of Kannapolis, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his home after a period of declining health.
Born May 10, 1928 in Rowan County, Hobart was the son of the late James Hobart Benson, Sr. and Grace Ferguson Benson. During his working years, he worked at Cannon Mills from 1945 -1950 and as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service at the Kannapolis Post Office from 1952 - 1982.
Hobart is survived by his wife of sixty -three years, Betty Ingram Benson; his son, James David Benson and wife, Jana of Kannapolis; one granddaughter, Melisha Benson Fisher and husband Matt of Kannapolis; one grandson, James David Benson, Jr. of Kannapolis; a great – granddaughter, Hyland Fisher; and a great – grandson Holden Fisher.
A funeral service to honor Hobart’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Chapel, Kannapolis. Rev. Jim Watford will officiate. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
