James Shelton Brooks

Obituary: James Shelton Brooks, 89, of Kannapolis passed away on October 1, 2016 at CHS-NorthEast. He was born August 27, 1927 in Royston, Ga., a son of the late James David Omer Brooks and Minnie Phillips Brooks. Shelton was retired from the US Navy after 26 years of service where he was an electronics officer and avionics specialist. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Enochville. He also was a member of the Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge #626, Scottish Rites Bodies and Oasis Shrine member. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Lewis Whittington. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military and masonic rites. The family will receive friends prior at Whitley's from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. He is survived by wife, Billie Jean Hearn Brooks, daughters, Elizabeth Ann Brooks Craven (Robert) of Ehrhardt, SC, Becky Brooks Cobert (Timothy) of Concord, son, James Keith Brooks (Deborah) of Edisto Island, SC, 4 grandchildren, Lisa Craven Angle (Michael), James Aaron Craven (Katrina), Steven Gregory Cobert, Alexander Hearn Cobert, 4 great grandchildren, Hunter Alexander Angle, Victoria Rose Angle, Michaela Elisabeth Angle and James Christopher Craven.
