James H. Dees, 93, previously of Sebring, FL, passed away Wednesday evening, September 11, 2019, at Tucker Hospice House.
Born November 5, 1925, in Detroit, MI, he was a son of the late William Oscar and May Falton Dees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stenis Dees, and a great-granddaughter, Cassie LaCross.
James had honorably served his country with the US Army, European Theater during WWII. Mr. Dees later retied from Yellow-Freight after 40 years of faithful service. A hard worker, James was also a gunsmith, a NRA member, an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed all sports, especially NASCAR and football. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Dees will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish James’ memory include his wife of 73 years, Jerry Hailey Dees; his daughter, Dinah DuVall (Dave); son, Daryl Dees (Kathy); his grandchildren, Gabe Dees (Teneil), Adam Dees (Bobbie), Sara Hantzis (Pat Mesparin), Anne Duvall (Curt Rakestrow), Chance DuVall (Vannesa) and Brian Fox (Valorie), his great-grandchildren, Jaydon Dees, Hailey Dees, Kaleb Fox (KD Lynn) and Jenna Fox; and his great great-grandchildren, Amilya Lewis and Landen Dees.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Dees will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Anita Sain, pastor of Midway United Methodist Church. Mr. Dees will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, with military graveside rites.
