Obituary: Mr. James Darrell Fleming,70, of Kannapolis, when home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He had been ill one month but death was unexpected. He was born November 14, 1938 in Cabarrus County, son of the late Harry James Fleming and Esther Lee Brown Fleming. He was educated at A.L. Brown High School. He was a transportation engineer for Kraft General Foods, retiring in 1995. He later worked for Burgess Transport, Piedmont Transport and Thurston Motor Lines. In 1961 he received his transportation degree from N.C. State University. He drove for over 48 years and received a five million mile safe driving award. At the time of his death he was employed by the Independent Tribune. He was a Charter member of Crown Pointe Baptist Church where he was serving on the Building Committee and also sang with the choir. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Friday, October 30, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Gene Edwards. Visitation will be 10:00-11:30 A.M. Friday prior to the funeral services. Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum. At other times the family will be at the residence. He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Barbara Clement Fleming of the Home, two Sons: Darrell Scott Fleming and wife Selena of Randleman and Rodney Dwayne Fleming of Concord. An Aunt and Uncle, Catherine and Luke Freeze of Salisbury and a Step Brother: Bill Wilson of Florida. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Alex and Tyler Fleming.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Meghan and Bethany Fleming.
