Obituary: Concord, NC- James S. Fowler, age 92, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Five Oaks Nursing Center after a period of declining health. He was born August 13, 1920 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Baxter Lee Fowler and Virginia Smith Fowler. James was a 1938 graduate of Rockwell High School, Rockwell, NC. James was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Machine Shop for 50 years until his retirement. He was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church, Concord, NC. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theater. He was affectionately called "Poppy" by his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Faggart Fowler, a brother, Tom Fowler, and a sister, Willie Fowler Hinson. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. David Hockett. Military rites will be conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the graveside. Survivors include his daughter, Virginia Fowler Hyatt of Ft. Worth, TX; a step-son, Wayne Hearne, Jr. & his wife, Frances of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his grandchildren, Kathryn Pigg of Midland, NC and Mallory Hodges of Holly Springs, NC; his four great-grandchildren; one brother, Hugh L. Fowler of Rockwell, NC; and three sisters, Gail Kluttz of Salisbury, NC, Martha Ritchie of China Grove, NC, and Ruth Shephard of Salisbury, NC. Memorials may be made to Forest Hill United Methodist Church, 265 Union Street North, Concord, NC 28025.
Visitation: After the Graveside Service Thursday December 13, 2012.

Service: 11:00 AM Thursday December 13, 2012 Graveside at Carolina Memorial Park.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
