Obituary: Concord, NC Mr. James "Richard" Galyan, 74, of 5931 Hardwood Lane, Concord and also a resident of Avante' of Concord sine 2008 died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast following a period of declining health. He was born March 3, 1935 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late Elmer and Ellie McIntryre Galyan. Richard was employed at Troutman's BBQ for many years until his retirement in 1977. He also worked for Cuthrell Meats. He was of the Baptist Faith. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the National Guard. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Roger Bostic. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday 6:00-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at their respective residences. He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Doris Jean Galyan, one Daughter: Penny Watts and husband Danny of Concord, Four Sons: Jeff Galyan and wife Beth of Concord, Kevin Galyan and wife Yolanda of Salisbury, Scott Galyan of Concord and Keith Galyan and wife Donna of Concord. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren: Michael Watts and wife Rose, Latisha Watts Peterson, April Watts, Erin Pressley and husband Devron , Allison Barnhardt and husband Michael, Alan Galyan and Fiancée Brittany Boyd, Nathan Galyan, Mary Galyan, Brittany Galyan, and Zachary Galyan all of Concord and Jared Galyan and Anzley Galyan of Salisbury. DJ Ledbetter and Fiancée Emily Little of Concord, Dexter Ledbetter and wife Lori of Norfolk, Va., Joseph Galyan and wife Trisha of Mt. Pleasant, and Jessica Galyan of Concord. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren: Joshua Harris, Christopher Watts, Destiny Peterson, Cheyanne Peterson, Jordan Anglin, Trevor Beeth, Bryanna Beeth, Emilee Pressley, Rachel Pressley, and Samantha Barnhardt, all of Concord. Also survived by Brothers: Jimmy Galyan and wife Nancy of High Point, and Robert Galyan of Concord. Three Sisters: Jonnie Maurice of Concord, Mary Honeycutt of Mt. Pleasant, and Ruby Trembley of Concord. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Whitley of Pennsylvania, Brothers: J.B. Galyan of Concord, Bill Galyan of Concord, and Pinkney Galyan. "The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Avante' for their care and support of Mr. Galyan during his illness."
