James Godfrey

Obituary: James Luke Godfrey, 91, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Glenn A. Kaiser Hospice House in Salisbury. Mr. Godfrey was born in Union County, NC October 7, 1923 to the late Cyrus Leroy Godfrey and Sarah Venette McWhorter Godfrey. James retired after many years of service from Cannon Mills and he served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 serving in New Guinea in WWII. Survivors include his sister, Rosemary Griffin of Kannapolis, NC and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Margaret Stewart, Nancy Belk, Naomi Griffin and Ruth Brantley; and three brothers, Carl Godfrey, Harold Godfrey, and William Godfrey. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Carolina Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Hubbard officiating.
