Obituary: James G. Grooms, Jr., age 72, formerly of Kannapolis, NC, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 6, 2010. He was the son of the late James Guilford Grooms and Mary Sanford Grooms who had lived in Charlotte, NC. He was a retired truck driver. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at West A Tabernacle Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Mike Austin. He will be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Carol; four sons, James Grooms & wife, Dorothy, Walter Grooms & wife, Kimberly, Stephen Grooms & wife, Laura, and Michael Grooms & wife, Carmen; five stepchildren, Roderick Carter & wife, Jane, Jeff Carter & wife, Maria, Cindy Hart & husband, Leroy, Steve Carter & Cheryl, and Tony Carter & wife, Angela; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
