Obituary: James "Jim" Alex Kerley, 68 of Gold Hill, formerly of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2018 at his residence following a period of declining health. James was born June 26, 1949 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late James Lawson and Virginia Basinger Kerley. He was also preceded in death by two sons; James Kerley, Jr.,and Kenneth Kerley and one brother, Clifton Kerley. Jim was of the Baptist Faith. Prior to his retirement due to ill health he worked at Alfa La Valve Company as a supervisor in the machine shop. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed taking his sons and grandson on hunting and fishing trips. He was a devoted family man. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia; with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January of this year. One grandson, Cory Kerley and wife Stephanie, one great granddaughter, Lyla Kerley, two brothers; Gary Kerley of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Frank Kerley of Kannapolis. He is also survived by two sisters; Barbara Ann Alban and husband Jamie of Los Angeles, California, and Lucille Smith and husband Jack of Myrtle Beach, S.C. A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Randall Ritchie. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5:00 P.M. until the time of the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
