Obituary: James Leonard McFarland, 68, of Kannapolis, NC passed away at Big Elm Retirement Center on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. James was born on March 18, 1949 in Cherokee Co., SC son of the late Frances Ailene McFarland. In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Clarence "Lee" McFarland. James was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was employed with the Pillowtex Cannon Mill where worked as a chemical mixer and had later worked for Medical Mobility. James was a member of Victory Temple Church. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Carol McKinney McFarland; a son, Brian McFarland and a daughter, Tamala Ramirez(Ruben) and six grandchildren: Amelia Moore(Greg), Andrew Ramirez, Brannon McFarland, Colin McFarland, Max McFarland and Will McFarland. Also, by a great-grandson, Zackary Ramirez and two sisters; Sandra Brown (Joe) and Debbie Ashby (Virgil). The service for Mr. McFarland will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gary Posey. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday. Memorials can be left at: Victory Temple, 3101 Cline School Rd, Concord, NC 28025.
