Obituary: James Richard (Rick) Mullinax, age 70, died Saturday, June 4, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 4, 1946 in Iredell County, NC, the son of the late Joe Albert Mullinax and Virginia McIntyre Mullinax. Rick was a 1964 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, Kannapolis, NC. He entered in the U.S. Navy in 1965 and spent much of his time on the USS Austin. Rick was employed with Duke Power Company for thirty-three years having retired in 2000 due to ill health. He was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as an elder and an invaluable member of the property committee. Rick was an active member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695 where he was also very active throughout the years. Among his many other interests included being a NASCAR fan during the time of Dale Earnhardt's career, fishing, camping, playing golf, and going to the beach. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Gene Mullinax. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Ellen Campbell-Gardner. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior the service. The family will be at their residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Diane Blinson Mullinax; a daughter, Lisa Mullinax Snider (Brent) and a son, Joseph Richard Mullinax, both of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, Cassidy and Walker Snider & Cameron and Chloe Mullinax; one sister, Jane M. James of Kannapolis, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
