Obituary: After a very courageous battle with cancer, James "Jim" Marvin Norris went to live with his heavenly Father on May 12, 2011. He leaves behind his wife, Margie Norris, three daughters, Debbie Roberts, Peggy Honeycutt, and Tammy Norris, two sons, Jerry and Jimmy Norris, eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by four half siblings. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Yow. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean war era. Jim was a very involved and active member of the Kannapolis Fire Department for twenty- one years, retiring in 1993 with the rank of district chief. He received numerous awards for his dedication and accomplishment s and was well respected by his peers. He was voted " Fireman of the Year" In 1974, 1989, and 1995. He served on the Kannapolis Fire Department Relief Board for over twenty years. He was employed with Cannon Mills as a carpenter for many years and had a very special talent for building and remolding homes. After leaving Cannon Mills, he used that talent to establish Norris' Remodeling. He earned a reputation for being honest, reliable and trustworthy and believed very strongly that " A man is as Good as his Word" and " Do the Right Thing and Trust God". He will be greatly missed by the people who loved him. Jim was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, attending regularly until his health prevented him for continuing. He had a very special bond with his step grandson Jeremy Green and his step great grandchildren, Taylor and Kelsie Blovsky. He was a loving grandfather to them and enjoyed telling them about "the good old days" and giving them his "words of wisdom". Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Revs. David Giles and Dave Cash. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be members of the Kannapolis Fire Dept. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Jaycee Burn Center, Medical Foundation of NC, Inc., 880 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
