Obituary: Mr. James Robert Oliver, 69, of Concord went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born August 21, 1942 in Mecklenburg County, a son of the late Jadie and Annie Mae Lear Oliver. James was an active member of Charity Baptist Church in Kannapolis where he served on the Board of Deacons, Church Trustee, sang in the choir, helped in the food pantry ministry and with the Joy Seniors at Charity. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea for fifteen months. He was an electrician in the maintenance dept. of the Charlotte -Mecklenburg School System, retiring in 2005 following 30 years of service. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Charity Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Marty Peyton. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to final rites. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the church. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Carol Thomas Oliver of the home, a son, Phillip (Susan) Oliver of Atlanta, a daughter, Leslie (Billy) Oliver White of Salisbury, a brother, Johnny Oliver of Charlotte, four grandchildren, Garrett White, Madison White, Evie White and Ethan Oliver and his mother-in-law, Pauline Thomas, brother-in-law Lex Thomas of Raleigh, and sisters-in-law Frances North of Maryland and Sylvia Wilkinson of Florida.
