James Oliver Phillips

Obituary: James Oliver "Jimmy" Phillips, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 27, 2016 at CMC Main in Charlotte. Jimmy was born June 14, 1945 in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Robert Glenn and Katie Lee Adams Phillips. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Betty Jo Brock Phillips; a brother Andy Phillips and sisters Ruth and Sandra Phillips. Jimmy retired after more than 20 years of service from Boral Brick Inc. He enjoyed working in the yard and was always willing to help others. Family members left with cherished memories include Alex Edwards of the home; his sister Marie Sims (Ray) of Kannapolis; his brother Charles Phillips of Concord; his step grandchildren Christen McCurrach, Joshua Smith and Jared Smith and great grandchildren. Jimmy loved all of his family and friends, with a special place in his heart for Alex. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 2nd, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Jimmy's life will be at 11:00 am Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Pastor Joey Spry.
